A hat named Dwight Yoakam? Face off?

[edit]

Two pics in this article and you never see Dwight Yoakam's face. Where's the man face? This article is about a cowboy hat named Dwight Yoakam? --Officer Boscorelli (talk) 16:44, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Officer Boscorelli complained about the fact there are 2 pictures of Dwight Yoakam on this page, but you cannot see his face in either one. He made that complaint on 6/7/10 and still those pictures remain. 1218jmm (talk) 22:25, 6 May 2012 (UTC) 6 May 2012[reply]

Ancestry

[edit]

I'm not sure how I managed to revert my own hard work, but I've tried to fix it now. A resounding "wtf" on my part. I've also tried to include all the subsequent revisions. Iroll 05:24, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Please add if possible that Yoakam is of Jewish ancestry. I have heard him state this in an interview but am unsure of the particulars.

The Jewish ancestry would probably not be on the Yoakam side -- that's a German name from Alsace-Lorraine, gone through England and picked up the Y spelling. Other family names include Tibbs. Incidentally, he personally is a Christian, since 1994.

Does anyone know if he actually lived in Bakersfield at any point? --Kfreeland 05:16, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's not Jewish, do you know anything about the man at all? 2605:E000:99C2:5B00:B47E:A870:2516:BB05 (talk) 18:08, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

He never lived in Bakersfield. Buck Owens did and Dwight admired Buck and the Bakersfield sound. (DD) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.56.133.136 (talk) 20:15, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

hey where is dwight yoakam on wilfred with elijiah wood on fx under television... somebody needs to put it up Did Dwight Yoakam retire? I have not heard any new singles by him since "Blame the Vain". O'Malley II 23:52, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dwight hasn't retired that I know of, he just hasn't been accepted by radio of late. He did have a single after "Blame The Vain", however - it was "I Wanna Love Again", which didn't chart. TenPoundHammer 20:57, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NO! NO! NO! Dwight is very much "alive" musically; he just released Dwight Sings Buck —Preceding unsigned comment added by KLynnS (talkcontribs) 23:16, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Burritos?

[edit]

Anyone able to find out more about the brand of frozen breakfast burritos to which Dwight is lending his name? They're pretty tasty, but I'm curious as to what moved Dwight to put his name on them, and the biscuit company to seek his endorsement. —Robotech_Master (talk) 13:18, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Better pictures

[edit]

This article needs at least one picture where Yoakam's face is visible. I find it hilarious that I came here to make this comment and I see multiple other comments from almost 5 years ago making the same point. I know this is just complaining since I'm not in a position to find a new picture, ensure it is usable on wikipedia, and insert it here. But I wish someone would do it! 12.216.211.2 (talk) 18:41, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life

[edit]

There aren't many celebrity articles on Wikipedia that have no details of someone's adult personal life (i.e. marriages, children, etc.). The personal details section pretty much ends after describing his youth.2601:201:C000:598E:49EF:9313:475C:7666 (talk) 04:23, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Editors! Being a fan of Dwight and Sharon, I have not been able to verify anywhere that Dwight's songs Fast as You or Heart of Stone were implied or about Sharon Stone. I once heard a radio interview on KUZZ that he wrote Fast as You about James Dean in Giant. Sunsetflowers (talk) 01:43, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The earliest footage I have ever seen of Dwight and Emily Joyce on a date is from this video on YouTube. It looks like some party for Family Guy "It's a Trap" at the Supper Club on Hollywood Blvd. I made the edit in the wiki article, changed it from 2013 to 2010. I'm not sure when they were engaged though.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuo3h7VdEzw 2605:E000:99C2:5B00:B47E:A870:2516:BB05 (talk) 18:08, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Pioneering style of country music"

[edit]

Both the lede and the music career section claim that he has a unique "pioneering" brand of honky tonk of music (which was unpopular in Nashville when he started). However, there is nothing in the article about what makes his music style unique. If this is indeed the case, it needs to be accentuated in the article. Otherwise, it should be removed. 131.202.156.88 (talk) 15:50, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'll look at this over the next week. Back in high school I use to listen to a station that would play "Intentional Heartache" frequently in the middle of the night. Hog Farm Talk 19:47, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • ". At the time of Yoakam's birth, his father was serving in the United States Army during the Korean War." - didn't the active fighting with the US in Korea end before 1956? There's still troops there of course but I don't think implying that it was the active conflict is the best way to handle this
  • "Yoakam and some classmates formed a band to compete in the school's talent show" - any specific genre?
  • "The two met when performing together at a concert in late 1999." - I'm a bit confused as to what exactly this is suppose to signify - is this the meeting between Dwight and Buck Owens that led to the collaboration? If so, it can be stated more clearly
  • "His first Audium release was 2002's Population Me" - source says this was released in 2003
  • "Artists covered included John Prine's "Paradise"" - link Paradise (John Prine song) (a personal favorite for me, both Prine's and Sturgill's versions)
  • Spot-checked a few sources, only issue noted is the Population Me release date above

I think that's all from me. Hog Farm Talk 03:29, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
